Biervliet

Originally, Biervliet was an island and used to have city rights before 1183. Unfortunately, little remains of the town, while many polders were added. Today, Biervliet no longer is a town, we now call it a small village.

In the center of the village you will find a statue of Willem Beukelszoon, a fisherman who is said to have invented herring jawing. Several national monuments can be found in the village, such as the former town hall from 1806, which is currently used as a village hall. The reformed church is also one of them, with its stained glass windows depicting Willem III.

What to do in Biervliet?

Every Tuesday afternoon in July and August there is a town tour along the historic objects. During the Ascension weekend in May, there is an annual event called the Geuzenfeesten in Biervliet.

After some culture sniffing, visit Bistro Lafayette in the city center for a drink and a delicious meat or fish dish. For fries and a tasty snack, stop by at neighbors Hans en Frietje.
