IJzendijke

Several events are held annually in IJzendijke. In July the annual Folkloristic Day takes place with demonstrative competitions of ring stabling on farm horses. The International Draft Horse Show is organized every four years, the last of which took place in 2022.

Just outside IJzendijke you will find the the Valkeniershof, where demonstrations and workshops with birds of prey are regularly held. Very cool to experience!

History of IJzendijke

IJzendijke received city rights in 1303, it used to be a flourishing commercial town. The Spaniards were driven out by Prince Maurits and for several decades "Iezendieke", was under French rule. A nickname for the village "Petit Paris" probably comes from the time when the Walloon and French noble landowners communicated with each other in French. At Museum Het Bolwerk, you can see how the people of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen defended themselves against hostile attacks throughout time. There are also constantly new exhibitions to view and activities for kids to experience. A guided village walk is highly recommended!
