A fortified town on the border

Sluis, located in the West of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and a delightful town for the true Burgundian. There are many stores, restaurants and cafes. This fortified town, near the border of Belgium, is one of the top 5 towns in Zeeland for shopping. The range of stores varies enormously, which is precisely what makes shopping in Sluis so much fun. From small boutiques to bigger brands, the selection is diverse.

Sluis' historical features also contribute to a unique day of shopping. Everywhere you encounter reminders of the past, such as the ramparts and old city gates. Visit the Belfry or take a walk on the ramparts of Sluis and discover the rich history of the town. In the Belfry, a building from the 14th century, you will find an interactive museum for young and old! Mill De Brak is also worth a visit. The souvenir store offers home-ground flour, but you can also stop by for a nice cup of coffee in the brasserie or a hot mug of tea in the tearoom. Next door to mill De Brak is a nice flower store called Anne Versprille Flower Design.

Other attractions in the vicinity of Sluis include the Monnikenwerve ostrich farm and the Bizarium museum. At Toversluis, you can book an evening of bowling with the family or an afternoon of fun in the indoor or outdoor playground. In the classic hotel 'De Dikke van Dale' you will find the local casino.

One of the biggest events in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is the evening markets in Sluis. An annual, 4-day event organized by the Middenstands Vereniging Sluis. The markets take place on the last two Tuesdays of July and the first two Tuesdays of August.
